8 Unforgettable Sites to Visit along the NH 24

The NH 24 start and end points are Sonauli in Uttar Pradesh near the border of India and Nepal, to Saiyad Raja in Uttar Pradesh where it merges with the NH19. There are no states in between National Highway 24, as the entire highway lies within Uttar Pradesh. There are several beautiful places to visit and you can even explore some locations that are located a short distance off the highway. The major places that this highway touches upon include Sonauli, Pharenda, Gorakhpur, Ghazipur, Zamania, and culminating at Saiyad Raja.

8 Places to see while on Road trips on the National Highway 24

1. Sonauli

Sonauli is a well-known town in Uttar Pradesh and the transit point between India and Nepal. There is not many tourist attraction in this town, but moving a little ahead you can visit Lumbini, the birth-place of Gautam Buddha in Nepal. Sonauli sees heavy traffic of tourists who visit here to enter Nepal through road although it is a long and tiresome process.

2. Pharenda

Also called Anandnagar, Pharenda is a small town that you will find on the National Highway 24 route map. The famous attractions that you will come across here include Lehara Devi mandir and Barahsingha Reserve. You can also explore the nearby market place here, Dhani Bazar.

3. Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur is a famous city in the state of Uttar Pradesh that is located on the banks of the River Rapti. The city is famous for many reasons, while one of them is Gita Press, which is the largest publisher in the world of Hindu religious texts. The other attractions that you will find here are Gorakhnath Math, Railway Museum, Kushmi Forest, Ambedkar Park, Vidyavasini Park, Veer Bahadur Singh Planetarium, etc. 

4. Doharighat

Doharighat is famous for being a religious city. It is believed that Lord Ram and Parshuram met here. There is a famous temple on the bank of river Saryu, of Lakshman Ji Maharaj who was the brother of Lord Ram. The attractions you can take a tour of here include Janki Mandir, Lord Shiva, Gauri Shanker Ghat, and Durga Temple.

5. Mau

Mau is a very small town and you can actually take a short break here to visit places like Van Devi Mandir Kohinaour, Muktidhaam Dohrighat, Sheetla Mata Mandir, etc. Tour of the attractions will not take more than an hour here. You can visit the many Zari Saree shops here as there are several old and famous saree shops at Mau. The town has been a pillar in the textile industry for generations.

6. Ghazipur

Ghazipur is famous for its opium factory that dates back to the British period. The factory still operates legally and provides opiates for drug production by pharmaceutical companies around the world. The tourist attractions that you must visit here include Lord Cornwallis Tomb, Bhitari, Pahar Khan Tomb, Old Church, to name a few. From here you can visit Sarnath which is around 75 kilometers away and a prominent Buddhist tourist destination, and has been the site of the first sermon of Buddha. From there you can also reach Varanasi which is a bustling city famous for temples, Sari and Beetle leaf.

7. Zamania

Zamania is one of the well-known places within the Ghazipur district where Lord Cornwallis drew his last breath and was put to rest at his tomb in Ghazipur. The little town on the banks of the holy river Ganga where it flows from South to North, compared to the usual flow of the river which flows North to South. It is believed that this happened due to the River Goddess wanted to touch the feet of Lord Kashi Vishwanath.

8. Saiyad Raja

Saiyad Raja is one of the places that you will find on your road trip on National Highway 24. As you reach this place, you can explore the town a bit and visit attractions like Rajdari Waterfall, Latif Shah Dam, Hetampur Fort, Chandra Prabha Wildlife Sanctuary, etc.

The NH 24 touches upon several beautiful places within the culturally rich land of Uttar Pradesh.
