Road Trips to The World Heritage Sites in Delhi

1. Humayun’s Tomb

Dedicated to a great leader from the Mughal dynasty who ruled the country during the 16th century, this tomb was built to pay tribute to him after his death by his wife. The most distinctive structure was constructed of red sandstone and white marbles, and thus gets its magnificent look. The Islamic pattern on the pillars and extraordinary artwork are worth a visit while you take a tour of the Humayun’s Tomb. Some even say it’s second to the Taj Mahal in artistry and architecture — which is to say a lot, since Taj Mahal is considered to be one of the seven wonders of the world. Adding to its charm, is a lush a Persian styled garden which has been standing in this courtyard since centuries, intact and alluring.

  • Best routes to visit the tombHumayun’s Tomb is located at the Southern part of Delhi near Nizamuddin, therefore can be reached easily from all over the place via cars. Even the metro station is just 2.2 Km away from here, and therefore you can reach from there easily as well.

2. Qutub Minar

Who wouldn’t have heard about the largest tower in India, the Qutub Minar? Located in the outskirts of Delhi, this minaret is 72 metres high. Built in 1192 by a famous Muslim Sultan, this extraordinary structure is an exemplary work for aficionados of architectural and of course for the art lovers. The eye catching designs, the capturing contrasts and the ultra fine way of carving everything is believed to be exceptional in world history. Apart from this tower, even the monuments it consists of are considered special by UNESCO. Some of these fabulous monuments are Quwwat- Al- Islam Mosque and Iron Pillar Of Delhi. While the mosque is considered as the first one in India, the iron pillar takes you back to the powerful Gupta Dynasty’s rule.

  • Best routes to reach Qutub MinarQutub Minar from New Delhi in a car is just 15 minutes away with 10.8 Km of distance, and from Old Delhi it is 17.6 Km away which would take you around half an hour in a car. Even the Qutub Minar Metro station is minutes away from the monument which can take you to your next location easily.

3. The Red Fort

Built in the year 1857 by the Mughals, the Lal Qila or the Red Fort of Delhi is a sombre structure that commands respect. Made with red coloured bricks and depicting a unique taste of décor and art, this fort speaks of the high preferences and classy choices of the Mughal rulers. Being declared as the UNESCO world heritage site in the year 2007, this fort is one of the most preferred places in the list of Delhi sightseeing Designed by Ahmed Lahori on the orders of Emperor Shahjahan, this fort is extravagant and lavish and tells a tale of the fanciful expenditures and whims of rulers. No doubt you couldn’t take your eyes off when you roam here to experience an era up, close and personal.

  • Best routes to reach the Red FortThe Red Fort can be reached within minutes from New Delhi in a car as it is 7.4 Km from the main junction. There are even metros and trains connecting from here that can make your travelling convenient and easy.
